Sea kayaking in Fiordland is world renowned, with both day and overnight trips available in Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound. These breathtaking fiords provide opportunities to kayak through inky blue waters, under waterfalls and alongside dolphins. It is a 'must do' Fiordland experience.

Lake kayaking is also plentiful in Fiordland with Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapouri. The eastern end of Lake Manapouri is possibly the best waterway in New Zealand for kayaking with over 33 islands and seemingly endless coves, sandy beaches, waterfalls and channels all within a days paddle.

River kayaking can be enjoyed on the Hollyford River and Waiau River. Both are nothing short of majestic, crossing through farmland, native forest, and snow capped mountains.

Guests can explore the Fiordland waters by teaming up with a local guide, who can provide insight into the area's rich history, as well as the native flora and fauna. Take a look at our Active Fiordland package to learn more about the magic of kayaking in Fiordland, or get in touch and the team at Cabot Lodge can develop an adventure catered to your ski levels and interests.
